Fiber Arts

Today we went over to a friend's house to learn about natural fibers. First we met their rabbit and feel various fibers- both plant and animal. Then she showed the kids how to card the wool.

Then they each got a try.

While they were waiting for a turn with the carders, Sarah's daughter demonstrated how to use a drop spindle.

Which they also got to try out.

She also demonstrated how to use a spinning wheel

to turn the wool into yarn

Finally they all made felted balls.

Using needles to felt the balls

and we finished felting them with water once we got home.

  1. Wow, I wish I had been there. I am trying to figure out how to do all of this on my own, and it is a bit difficult. I was trying to read the instructions on my drop spindle just last night and it is hard to figure out from written instructions! You are so blessed to have someone to show you.

  2. Hi Sadie,
It's been awhile since I have been able to visit your blog, we have been extremely busy with girl scouts and school projects. I love your valentine's day cookies and cupcakes you do such a wonderful job. Your valentine's day party looked like alot of fun, wish we could have come. :)
The garden looks almost this year as always and so does Annika. So sweet she is such a beautiful baby. The goats are cool as ever. I look forward to see how much food you guys will grow this year do you think you will beat your highest record in lbs? I love the yarn how cool, what a neat day and learning experience.

    What a great blog!
    Hugs,
    Sheila

  3. What a fantastic homeschooling day!

I have this dream of a farmhouse...Eli in the kitchen whipping up pastries, Remy in the fields with the critters, a birth center on the property, plenty of freshly birthed babies each month, and SHEEP to raise and do this with!

Your post today made that pang even worse. LOL
