Motherhood and Then Some

Day 6 of Blogging Everyday in May. Topic: If you couldn't answer with  your job, how would you answer the question 'What do you do?'

I am not sure what my technical job title would be. When filling out paperwork I am forced to check the not employed or homemaker box (both of which I hate, by the way). So what do I do, exactly?

I am a wife. I am a parent. A mother.

I am a hairdresser. A mediator. A first-aid administer.

I am an English teacher. A science teacher. A history teacher.

An art teacher. A gym teacher. A music teacher.

I am a memory maker. A photographer.  A memory preserver.

I am a party planner. A travel agent. A maid.

I am a baker. A decorator. A caterer.

I am a farmer. An animal caretaker. A animal midwife.

I am a gardener. A cook. A food preserver. A seed saver.

I am a writer. A blogger. And right this very moment, I will stop and be a story teller to a sleepy little girl with a Dora book in her hand.

  1. I love this. It captures motherhood so perfectly. And then you have some extra on top of that!!

  2. You play a lot of roles. And I love it. Shows what hardwork motherhood is. I had a conservation with a girl at church the other day who is raised by her step dad and mom. She feels weird calling her step dad dad because people will judge her. I told her if she wanted him to be her father then that was ok. Cause what is DNA anyway. I don't think I've ever seen her so happy.

  5. Its so nice to meet another mother with 5 children!!

We mums have so many roles to fill its painful when filling out forms that we have to put home maker, I've been known to put in Dometic Engineer on one form before! It certainly got a laugh from the person reading it!

  7. That is a lot of roles to live by. When people ask me what I do, I say that I own a website. I think most people are too scared of technology to ask any further questions, lol. However, I am everything to my two toddlers and a writer for my own sanity.

  8. I love your answer. I hate checking I am unemployed too. My mother used to think "Homemaker" sounded nice and progressive. It was the replacement for "Housewife" after all.
